Five Boroughs Brewing Company was founded in 2017 in New York City, New York by Blake Tomnitz and Kevin O’Donnell. The two were investment bankers who saw an opportunity to take advantage of the city’s growing craft beer scene. In 2023, they sold Five Boroughs to Runnymede Investments’ beer company Finestkind Beverages, which also runs Smuttynose brewing. In late 2024, Finestkind Beverages merged with Mass. Bay Brewing Company, the parent company of Harpoon Brewing among others, to become Barrel One Collective.
