ABK Beer, more formally known as Aktienbrauerei Kaufbeuren, was founded in Kaufbeuren, Germany in 1308 by Heinrich der Twinger, when he bequeathed his brewhouse to the Holy Ghost Hospital in the town. In 1907, the brewery merged with Löwen-Brauerei E. Wiedemann to become Aktienbrauerei Traube und Löwe. It was given its current name in 1920. The brewery operated as a share brewery until 2017, when US billionaire John Paul DeJoria, who had previously purchased a 55% stake in the business in 2013, purchased the remaining 45%. The business now operates under his ROKit Group, a conglomerate of spirits, motorcycle, canned oxygen, and other brands.
