Aldaris Brewery was founded in 1865 in Riga, Latvia by Joachim Dowder, originally under the name “Waldschlößchen” (“Forest Castle”). In 1937, it became a state-owned company called Aldaris, and later merged with two other Latvian breweries, Vārpa Ilģuciem and Riga 3rd Brewery, in 1976. In 1992, Aldaris was privatized, and was purchased by Baltic Brewery Holdings, a joint enterprise of Carlsberg Group and Scottish & Newcastle. In 2008, the brewery became 100% owned by Carlsberg.
