Who owns CAPITOL CREEK BREWERY?
CAPITOL CREEK BREWERY is owned by
WESTBOUND & DOWN BREWING
First Brewed
2017
Origin
Colorado, United States
Capitol Creek Brewing was founded in Basalt, Colorado in 2017 by Bill Johnson, who also at the time owned Aspen Public House. The brewery is situated at the foot of Capitol Peak, near the creek that gives the brewery its name.
In 2021, Johnson sold Capitol Creek to Legacy Brewers, founded by former Yakima Chief CEO Dan Bryant. The group had previously purchased Ninkasi Brewing as well as nearby Aspen Brewing, though the former had been purchased back by the original Ninkasi owners before that time. In 2023, however, the Legacy Brewers group started to falter, and both Aspen and Capitol Creek were sold to fellow Colorado brewery Westbound & Down. The move fit with their stated goal of leaning into brewpubs in the area.
