Cigar City Brewing is a well-known beer brand that was created in 2007 in Tampa, Florida. It was founded by Joey Redner, who initially began brewing small batches of experimental beers in his garage. The brewery is also known for producing a festival every year for the release of its Hunahpu Imperial Stout. In 2016, it merged with Oskar Blues Brewery, a Colorado-based craft brewery, and the Utah Brewers Cooperative to form the CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective. The move was backed by Fireman Capital Partners, a private equity firm that was created by the former owner of Reebok, Dan Reebok. In 2022, the collective was purchased by Monster Beverage Corporation for $330 million. As of 2023, the Jai Alai IPA brand has become the number one craft brand in Monster’s portfolio.
