Henninger Brewery was founded in 1655 in Frankfurt, Germany by Eberhard Stein, originally under his name. in 1873, Heinrich Christian Henninger purchased the company, and in 1935 it changed its name to Henninger-Bräu AG. After World War II, the brand began being licensed around the world, including in Greece, Argentina, and Spain. Of these relationships, the Greek company remains, and has been purchased by Carlsberg, who still markets the beer there.

In 1980, Henninger was purchased by tobacco company Reemtsma. They failed to successfully market the brewery, and in 1987 sold it again to meat company Gebrüder März AG. That company went bankrupt in 1998, and the brewery was sold to billionaire Dietmar Hopp, who in 2001 sold it again to Binding Brauerei. Binding was purchased by Oetker Group in 2004, and the beverage division is now known as the Radeberger Group.
