Jelen Beer was first brewed by Apatin Brewery in Apatin, Serbia in 1756. The brewery was founded by the Imperial Chamber, before being transferred to private ownership at the end of the 19th century. After World War II, the company was again made public under the socialist Yugoslav government. In 1991 the company was again privatized. In 2003, Belgian company InterBrew purchased it, which later became InBev. In 2008, InBev purchased Anheuser-Busch and had to sell off several of its assets, including Apatin. It became a part of StarBev, which in 2012 was purchased by Molson Coors.
