Kona Brewing Company was created in 1994 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. It was founded by a father and son duo, Cameron Healy and Spoon Khalsa, who wanted to bring Hawaiian flavors to the craft beer industry. In 2010, Kona Brewing Company was acquired by Craft Brew Alliance, based in Portland, Oregon. Shortly thereafter, Anheuser-Busch InBev purchased a 32.2% stake in CBA. In 2019, they purchased the rest of CBA, making Kona a wholy-owned subsidiary. However, due to anti-trust concerns from the US Justice Department, rights to the brand in Hawaii were sold to PV Brewing Partners for $16 million.
