Birra Menabrea was founded in Biella, Italy in 1846 by Antonio and Gian Battista Caraccio. The two brothers sold the brewery to Jean Joseph Menabrea and Antonio Zimmermann in 1864, and in 1872, Menabrea took sole ownership of the brewery and renamed it after himself. By 1899, Menabrea’s daughters Eugenia and Albertina had married Emilio Thedy and Augusto Antoniotti respectively, and those two men took over the business. The Thedy family managed the brewery until 1991, when it was purchased by Forst Brauerei, which despite its German name is also an Italian company.
