Moosehead is a popular Canadian beer brand that was created in 1867 by Susannah Oland in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The brand was initially known as “The Army and Navy Brewery,” and Susannah Oland became the first woman in North America to be a head brewer. In 1870 they renamed to S. Oland, Sons & Co. It later changed its name again to Maritime Brewing & Malting Company, and then finally to Moosehead Breweries in Ltd, after its flagship ale. However, it has always remained independent, and is still family owned.
