Open Brewing was founded in 2023 in Los Angeles, California by Keir Dillon, Ako Jefferson, Don Nguyen, and Antonio Razo, Jr. Dillon, a former professional snowboarder, and Nguyen, a professional skateboarder, teamed up with Jefferson, who also serves as creative director for Vans. The company collaborates with artists to put their artwork on the cans labels.

In 2024, it was announced that New Belgium Brewing a subsidiary of Kirin, had purchased a minority stake in the company, and will be manufacturing their product.
