Oskar Blues was created in 1997 by Dale Katechis in Lyons, Colorado. It originally was a restaurant with a craft beer focused menu, but in 1999 the team began brewing their own beer in the basement. Their release of Dale’s Pale Ale in 2002 marked the first significant moment a craft beer was served in cans. In 2016, it merged with Cigar City Brewing, a Florida-based craft brewery, and the Utah Brewers Collective to form the CANarchy Craft Brewery Collective. The move was backed by Fireman Capital, who owned the collective upon its merging. In 2022, the collective was purchased by Monster Beverage Corporation for $330 million.
