Parish Brewing Company was created in 2009 in the city of Broussard, Louisiana by Andrew Godley. Godley was a native of South Africa, and lived in Baton Rouge and New Orleans as a child. He was inspired by the brewing scene he saw when he moved from Louisiana to Pittsburgh to work as an engineer, but he quickly found he did not like working for a large corporation and soon moved home. He carried that tradition with him when he returned to Cajun Louisiana.
While still working as an engineer to support the nascent brewery, he bought a 1 barrel nano brewing setup and began brewing small batches of beer. The first beer, Canebrake, was made with local sugar cane, and was an instant success. In 2012, Godley opened up a full brewery with the help of two investors. In 2014, Parish released Ghost in the Machine, a double IPA that is one of the top-rated beers on RateBeer.com. He soon bought out his two investors, and by 2019 was brewing 18,500 barrels a year.
