River Horse is a craft beer brand that was created in 1996 by brothers Jim, Jack, and Tim Bryan, in Lambertville, New Jersey. The three started the brewery with $1 million in capital, and set up their brewery in the former Original Trenton Cracker Factory, a ten thousand square foot facility spread across two floors and four rooms.

In 2007, the company was sold to private equity professionals Glenn Bernabeo and Chris Walsh and placed under their holding company RHB Acquisition LLC. The two had recently sold SSG Capital Advisors, where they specialized in distressed companies, and sold companies in bankruptcy. The two claimed they didn’t want to work at a big bank, and they were looking for another challenge. They went looking for consumer product companies that created a product they could understand, and found River Horse.

In 2015, the company expanded to a new facility in Ewing, New Jersey that was two and a half times bigger than the original facility. The move allowed River Horse to add lager to their portfolio, as they did not have enough space to brew those prior to the move. In 2023, the company purchased Baltimore-based Duclaw Brewing. After purchasing the company, the team closed Duclaw’s facilities and brought production onsite to its facility.
