Sloop Brewing was created in 2011 in Poughkeepsie, New York. It was founded by Adam Watson and Justin Taylor, who began brewing in a garage.

In 2025, Sloop announced that it had formed a deal with Hendler Family Brewing to have them produce, market, and sell their beer, though Watson and Taylor would retain ownership of the brand.
