Tennents is a well-known Scottish beer brand that was created in 1740 in Glasgow, Scotland, by Hugh & Robert Tennent. In 1963, it was purchased by Charrington United Breweries, which in 1966 merged Tennents with its other Scottish subsidiary United Caledonian Breweries to become Tennents Caledonian Breweries. The following year, Charrington United was sold to Bass Brewery. In 2000, Bass was purchased by Belgian company Interbrew, which became InBev when it merged with AmBev in 2004. In 2008, InBev purchased Anheuser-Busch and renamed itself Anheuser-Busch InBev.
In 2009, C&C Group agreed to purchase the Tennent’s brand from AB InBev as part of a deal valued at £180 million.
