Works Progress Administration beer was founded in Boise, Idaho in 2015 by local restaurateur Dave Krick. The brewery was envisioned as a public benefit, with proceeds going to local organizations. However, it failed to find a location for its brewery, and went dormant until 2020, when Krick relaunched the brand in collaboration with Lost Grove Brewing. Lost Grove’s owner, Jacob Black, later teamed up with Krick and his wife Jami Adams, along with David Roberts to purchase Woodland Empire Ale Craft, and all three brands are now part of their parent company, Progress Through Beer LLC. The WPA brand, however, has again gone dormant as of late 2021.
