CARLSBERG GROUP

What does CARLSBERG GROUP Own?

Carlsberg Beer was created in the year 1847 by J.C. Jacobsen in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was renamed Gamle Carlsberg (“Old Carlsberg”) after his son opened a brewery and called it Ny (or “New”) Carlsberg. However, the two merged in 1906 and the name was reverted. In 1970, the company merged with fellow Danish brewery Tuborg to become United Breweries AS. In 1992 it merged with Tetley to become Carlsberg-Tetley, and then later Carlsberg Group. Since then, it has purchased dozens of beer brands worldwide, most notably through its joint acquisition of Scottish & Newcastle in 2008 with Heineken, who it split up the assets with.
