NORTH COAST BREWING CO.

What does NORTH COAST BREWING CO. Own?

North Coast Brewing Company was created in 1988 in the city of Fort Bragg, California by Mark Ruedrich, Tom Allen and Doug Moody. It was originally founded as a brewpub, with an initial output of only 400 barrels a year by Ruedrich, who served as brewmaster. The brewery gained early recognition for its Red Seal Ale, an amber ale which was hoppy for the time. The beer was an early user of the now ubiquitous Centennial hop. In the late 1990s, North Coast began producing organic beer under a private label for Whole Foods. The deal faltered within a few years, but it did force the brewery to create distributor relationships in every area where Whole Foods had a presence. The move encouraged North Coast to expand, and by 1999 it was in all but 3 states nationally, producing nearly 15,000 barrels a year.

North Coast Brewing also owns the Acme Beer brand, purchased in 1996, which was originally created in San Francisco in 1907. It In 2015, North Coast Brewing was certified as a B Corp.
