ROHRBACH BREWING COMPANY

What does ROHRBACH BREWING COMPANY Own?

Rohrbach Brewing Company was founded in 1991 in the city of Rochester, New York by husband and wife John and Patty Urlaub. The name was inspired by the town of Rohrbach, Germany, where the Urlaubs lived while John was working for the Kodak company in the 1980s. The experience abroad inspired the Urlaubs to make German-influenced beer in New York, and when they came back they began the company in the basement of the historic German House in Rochester.

The brewery grew steadily at first, and did not leave the Rochester market for much of its first decade of business. But by the mid 2000s it was starting to grow more rapidly, and Rohrbachs was facing the problem of not having enough space to ferment the beer. In 2008, the brewery expanded to a facility on Railroad Street that the Urlaubs purchased to house the expansion, where Rohrbachs also has a beer hall. Later, a second brewpub was opened in Gates, New York. The company also produces Red Wing Ale on behalf of the Rochester Red Wings.

In 2026, Rohrbach purchased the Young Lion Brewing brand.
