Birra Tirana was introduced in 1961 by the Kombinati Ushqimor, a state agency, originally under the name of Birra Malto. In 2001, it was privatized, with 94% of the company being sold to investors. In 2006, the company renamed itself Birra Tirana after its most popular product, which by that time was the most sold beer in the country.
